Found some new toys that I'm now playing with. Yahoo Widgets make for an interesting desktop, especially with the moon phase widget and the Dwight Schrute Bobblehead widget. Just small things to bide my time.
I know we were under drought conditions a couple of months ago, but this much rain is just ridiculous! It's not the rain that I mind, it's the flooding basement and the lack of coffee/tea at work as a result of all of the rain.
After we got home from dinner last night, Karen heard water flowing into the basement. It sounded like there was a spigot on. This happened before, but now it's compounded as I am finishing part of the basement to put my office down there, and this just can't happen once I get the floor, drywall, insulation, and computers in. Guess I'll have to pay for someone to come out and regrade the yard. Great!
As for the coffee/tea, some of the rain water spilled over into the treated water suplies at the local water company at work, putting a boil advisory up for the area. That means no hot water for coffee or tea, which I drink every morning. I forgot to bring in some coffee from home today, but I will have to do it for tomorrow as they are not planning on lifting the advisory until at least Thursday.
It's that time of year again, the 13th annual Relay For Life to benefit the American Cancer Society is coming up starting tomorrow. This year I decided to join the planning committee to help out with the publicity/photography aspect of the Relay, but also ended up becoming involved with Relay On-Line. This is another fundraising tool that allows participants to send out emails to all their friends and family asking for donations. The donors can then visit a website and make a secure donation online using their credit/debit card. I was tapped to take charge of this campaign, and we are doing an excellent job. Last year, we raised a total of $11,000 via Relay On-Line, and so far, we have over $58,000 online. That's quite an improvement.
We are currently on pace to raise our goal of $1,000,000 this year. It should be interesting to see where we end up on Saturday night.
Donations of course are still being accepted. If you would like to help out, visit Relay On-Line to make an online donation.
