Lately, I have not had any problems with spam comments on my blog, even though I am not using MT-Blacklist or anything else. That all changed this weekend. I guess my pages are finally being indexed by the search engines or something, because I got a total of 36 spam comments so far. It took me over and hour on and off going through and deleting all of them. I find it really hard to believe that people actually click on those links, and therefore, making it worth the effort to write the script to create the spam comments. Guess it's time to install MT-Blacklist and change my comments.cgi file name.
Posted by doug at May 24, 2004 01:14 PMMT-Blacklist is cake to install. I will help if you want. I haven't had any attempts at comment spamming since I changed the name of my comment script, so you might want to do that as a quick and easy solution.
Something to note about MT-Blacklist... you need to keep up to date with additions and deletions to the master list or you're still vulnerable to getting spammed.
Posted by: stacey at May 24, 2004 03:59 PMi think the idea behind referer and comment spam isn't to actually advertise and get people to click the links. the intention is to inflate the number of places that link to you, so google bubbles you closer to the top in searches.
