I decided to do an "emerge sync" on my Gentoo box and I don't like what I'm seeing. Most of this does not scare me, but I don't really like re-compiling GCC or QT/arts. I had such a good time doing QT/Arts before. Looking at that entry, I guess I still owe a mini HowTo for that. Good thing I have it written down at home :)
I think I will wait until this weekend when I can have the laptop going for a day or so uninterupted. It is going to take a LONG time to compile all these packages.

Wow, holy heck. I hate to see what mine looks like since I still haven't done the glibc update that you've already gotten through. I'd take it in as small of chunks as possible, unless they're all relying on the same thing to be upgraded.
I tried to sync up yesterday but I had problems with a corrupt sendmail or something so the entire thing failed. I'll try now and see what it looks like!

Let's put it this way, it makes the update list for my laptop look short! And the new firewall does not have X installed. :) Guess that will be chugging all weekend then.

Turns out, the Sun JDK wants X installed for some reason. Who knows?! Well, had I known that, I wouldn't have removed since it took so long to build on that box in the first place.

stacey..../etc/portage/package.mask, and then never do it again. (um, right? i think so.)
my install is pretty minimal, and i've been pretty blindly updating (did so earlier this week) and i've had no troubles yet.
