I didn't want this to become my little soapbox for my political views but I saw something today on MSNBC that makes me happy. For the past counless number of months, the Republicans (namely W.) has been trying to allow for oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. With my views and my love of nature, this really pissed me off. If there is one thing that will sway my political views of a president or any other candidate for that matter, it's their view on the environment. However, I read this today: "Republicans on Friday finished a massive energy bill that would double Americans’ use of ethanol in their cars, reduce their susceptibility to power blackouts and aim tax breaks at oil, natural gas, coal and nuclear power providers. However, the measure would deny President Bush his top energy priority: oil drilling in the Arctic wildlife refuge." (MSNBC) Read that last sentance again.. I'm elighted and ecstatic!!
Posted by doug at November 14, 2003 02:42 PMGood for you! It's nice to see other people have political views and annoyances...it seems everyone is alway afraid to voice them!!!
Posted by: claire at November 15, 2003 11:17 PMstill, ethanol is not ideal. it sounds all fine and good to cut oil usage, but it takes more energy to make ethanol than it should, so we're probably burning oil, natural gas, coal or something to produce energy to produce ethanol. from what i've gathered, ethanol amounts to a government subsidy for corn farmers.
Posted by: john at November 17, 2003 09:46 AMWell... if it's one thing i've learned living in central pa (and working here to), it's that you don't dare voice your opinions if they are not "conservative". I'm constantly being rilled at work for my "tree hugging, bleeding heart" views, but tough.. It's America and supposedly a free country. I'll respect your right to have an opinion if you can justify it. But i'm rambling...
